UX Centered Career Report: What does it look like when a company truly understands design?

What does it look like when a company truly understands design? We got a glimpse when we talked with AMBOSS’s VP of Product and Design, Chad Jennings.

Chad says his coworkers at AMBOSS believe in the value of a user-centered, design-oriented approach. Having built up a team of talented designers, Chad is now ready to hire a new Director of Product Design to facilitate and drive design strategically throughout the organization.

AMBOSS products are in the challenging overlap between the medical and tech industries. Their medical training tools help med students prepare for tough exams, while their evidence-based clinical support tools help doctors diagnose and treat patients.

The products are highly successful in their market. Chad credits the company’s holistic understanding of UX as to why they’ve done so well. The designers regularly co-design and collaborate with doctors. User research is highly valued throughout the organization. Because AMBOSS offers a very complex and nuanced product, they’ve taken a pragmatic approach to their implementation. Design has earned its reputation in the company.

The new Director of Product Design will arrive at a good time. Chad wants his new manager to facilitate discovery workshops, coach and mentor the existing team of strong, talented designers, and to help grow the team. The new Director will have the support of an organization that knows how to take advantage of strong design leadership.

We captured more detail about AMBOSS’s products and the Director position in this video:
